We Won’t Fall Into Your Trap; NPP Won’t Fight You – Afenyo-Markin Replies Minority

The leader of the ruling New Patriotic Party in Parliament has served notice that his caucus will not entertain any aggression that may arise from their opposing bench should the latter insist to take over the Majority chamber following the declaration of four seats as vacant.

The Speaker ruled the Agona West, Suhum, Fomena, Amenfi Central seats “vacant” following their representatives’ decision to contest the December parliamentary election as independent candidates.

This caused the Minority to declare themselves majority in Parliament as three of the vacant seats belong to the New Patriotic Party which is the the Majority.

However, the Supreme Court following an application by the Majority Caucus has stayed the Speaker’s ruling but the Minority insists to take the majority bench.

There are therefore concerns that this may stir chaos in the House when Parliament convenes and the two sides decide to occupy their respective positions.

Commenting in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s flagship programme “Kokrokoo”, Alexander Afenyo-Markin says no member of the Majority Caucus will misconduct himself or herself should the Minority decide to take their chamber.

He stated emphatically that they won’t be compelled to engage in a brawl or act in a manner that will tarnish their reputation.

“I won’t give them that theatre. We won’t have that theatre. Ghana is too responsible a country; there are respected people in this country”, he told the host.

He emphasized the best they will do should such a disturbance arise is to walk out but assured they will use the law to vindicate themselves.

“The law is my weapon”, Afenyo-Markin exclaimed, stressing “no NPP member will encourage a brawl. We leave everything to the conscience of Speaker”.

He added; “If the Speaker will come and preside and tell the NDC to come and sit on his right, the country will see, will watch and hear.”

“Look, we won’t fall into any of their traps”, he asserted.
