Alfred George Thompson, former Deputy Managing Director of National Investment Bank (NIB), has warned the Mahama administration not to turn Ghana into a narcotics hub.

Cocaine Bust

The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), days ago, intercepted 3,319.66 kg (3.3 tonnes) of cocaine with a street value of approximately $350 million.

The massive haul was concealed in sacks and bags cleverly hidden in heaps of sand in a tipper truck to evade detection.

The occupants in the tipper truck were arrested at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast in the Central Region en route to Accra.

The driver of the truck, 39-year-old Isaac Quaicoo, and his mate, Kenneth Cobbinah, a 25-year-old tertiary student, are, according to the report, currently in NIB custody assisting with investigations.

Suspicious AirMed Flight At KIA

Also, an air ambulance and private jet suspected to carry narcotics are said to have arrived and stayed in Ghana for 5 days.

The air ambulance named AirMed Flight N823AM landed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) before departing for Gran Canaria, Spain.

Checks on FlightRadar24, a trusted flight tracking platform, confirmed that AirMed N823AM was originally scheduled to depart Gran Canaria on March 20, 2025, at 3:55 AM, and arrive in Accra at 8:08 AM.

It was delayed and departed at 4:59 AM, landing in Accra at 9:03 AM.

The aircraft stayed in Ghana and departed from KIA on March 25, 2025, at 1:01 AM to Gran Canaria at 5:12 AM.

Missing Gold & Fake Dollar Currencies

Furthermore, security operatives reportedly found some hidden gold bars and a stash of dollar notes in a warehouse said to belong to a certain Alhaji who absconded before the ambush.

Though videos of the gold bars and the money which was later said to be counterfeited dollar bills surfaced on the internet, there’s no subsequent information from the authorities regarding the confiscated gold and cash.

The suspect is also still at large as there remain no reports on his whereabouts.

Is Ghana A Cocaine Hub?

Addressing the issue during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Alfred George Thompson found these developments very disturbing and dangerous for the nation.

He questioned how just within 3 months of President John Mahama in power, narcotics are suddenly flying to and fro.

“Is Ghana becoming a cocaine hub? Is Ghana becoming a transit to import and export cocaine? Is Ghana becoming a country which within 3 months of letting gold and dollars of money, 12 containers, get lost in this country?”, he fumed.

He further blasted the President and his officials stressing the opposition New Patriotic Party “will not sit down for this country to become a cocaine hub all of a sudden. It didn’t happen in the last 8 years and we will never let it happen”.
