Yaw Asani Tano, a socio-political commentator, says he finds nothing wrong with the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s treatment of the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, in connection with some corruption cases.

Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, named the former Minister a fugitive on grounds that the latter is running away from justice.

He revealed during a press conference that Ofori-Atta has been summoned by him to assist in investigations into his involvement into the controversial deal between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) as well as his involvement in the alleged spending of $58 million of taxpayers’ money in the construction of the National Cathedral and other cases.

“The OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori Atta a wanted fugitive. Mr Ofori Atta, you have two choices, you can return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or face the consequences”, “he is a fugitive from justice”, Mr. Agyebeng said.

He insisted Ofori-Atta must return with immediate effect, warning “you can either return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or the OSP will enforce your return”.

The OSP has subsequently removed Ofori-Atta from its wanted list saying in an official statement that “Mr. Ofori-Atta has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons and the OSP ceases to consider Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice pending his voluntary return to the jurisdiction circa his stated date…”

Yaw Asani Tano, contributing to Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, has backed the Special Prosecutor’s move.

According to him, the Special Prosecutor deserves the nation’s support in executing his mandate, hence finds nothing wrong with his initial declaration of Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive and the call for the Minister’s immediate return.

“What is wrong about inviting Ken Ofori-Atta to come down and answer questions by himself? I don’t see anything wrong with it”, he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh, emphasizing “I am wholly supporting the Special Prosecutor to bring him down to come and answer questions or allegations that have been leveled against him”.

He asserted that Ken Ofori-Atta must return and submit himself to the OSP’s investigations.
