Whether NAPO Is Your Choice Or Not, He’s Been Selected…Fall In Line! – Ayeh-Paye Replies Andy Appiah Kubi & Co
Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayensuano constituency, Samuel Ayeh-Paye has vouched for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the suitable candidate to partner Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party to victory in the December 7 polls.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Council on Thursday, July 4, approved Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called “NAPO”, as the party’s Vice presidential candidate.
Although the party has accepted NAPO as their Running Mate, not every member is in sync with the decision which was made unanimously at the Council meeting.
One of the persons against NAPO is the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi who in an interview on Joy News says “if it were up to me to choose, I wouldn’t choose him. He is not my preference. ‘Appiah-Kubi is saying that he is not my preference’, but that doesn’t mean he is not qualified”.
He added; “I would want somebody who would be open with the people on the ground, who would be able to deliver the votes, who would submit to the presidency, and who would be important in bringing Parliament closer to the Executive.”
Tackling the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Hon. Ayeh-Paye noted that contrary to views that Dr. Opoku Prempeh is arrogant or displays an assertive posture, he is one of the humblest people ever.
Recounting his good works at the Education and Energy Ministries and as Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Ayeh-Paye stated that Dr. Opoku Prempeh possesses the leadership qualities that befit the Running Mate criteria.
“Whether he is your choice or he is not your choice, he is the one that our constitution permits Dr. Bawumia to select and he has been chosen…So, whether he is like this or that, you straighten him when you get close to him. There is no person in the world who doesn’t learn.”
Further reacting to the opposition against him (NAPO), the former MP stated; “If Dr. Bawumia was to wait to get everybody’s choice before mentioning a name, we would hold the general elections and he would be without a Running Mate because even Dr. Bawumia, himself, is not everybody’s choice. Otherwise we would not hold election to vote on him, so there is nowhere you will find a person who appeals to everybody’s choice.”
