Why Does ‘Dumsor’ Only Happen When NDC Is In Power? – Dennis Miracles Blasts Gov’t

Dennis Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a former presidential staffer under the Akufo-Addo administration, has expressed concerns over the looming energy crisis to hit Ghana if the incumbent government fails to address it.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, revealed before Parliament that the energy sector is heavily indebted.

He disclosed the total indebtedness of the energy sector as of March 2025 stands at US$3.1 billion.

He added that the government needs a minimum of US$3.7 billion to fully clear this debt.

To ensure a stable power supply, the government has introduced a GH¢1 levy on petroleum products.

Discussing the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” panel discussion programme, Dennis Miracles wondered why it is always during the reign of the National Democratic Congress that the nation begins to dread the imminence of power cuts, locally referred to as “dumsor”.

“Did you hear dumsor in the eight years of NPP government? Why is that anytime NDC comes into government, they start talking about dumsor?”, he queried.

Dennis emphasized that “we (NPP) kept the power on for the people of Ghana” despite the global economic downturn, hence cannot fathom why, to him, the NDC government with the cedi appreciating and other economic benefits will have to bring back the era of dumsor.
