You Don’t Provide Armor For Your Opponents – Kweku Baako Slams NAPO

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has questioned the relevance of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s “Nkrumah” comments during his unveiling ceremony in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, on Tuesday, July 9.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, speaking to a charged crowd, said no President including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has significantly improved Ghana than President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah… no president who has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”, he asserted.

This comment has attracted public agitations with some people, mainly political opponents of the New Patriotic Party, likening it to desecration of Nkrumah’s legacy.

Tackling the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Kweku Baako stressed Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called “NAPO”, should have made his points of projecting the good works of President Nana Addo without roping in the Nkrumah administration.

To him, NAPO’s comparison of Nana Addo and Nkrumah’s works is providing his opponents the weaponry to attack the New Patriotic Party’s presidential ticket.

“You don’t provide armor for either your opponent or neutrals. You don’t do it; it’s needless! So, it lacked relevance in terms of the comparative urge he brought”, he exclaimed.

Expressing disappointment in NAPO, Mr. Baako strongly opined that although he is entitled to his assertions and ideologies that Nana Addo is the best performing President ever, Dr.  Kwame Nkrumah should never have been his target but rather fixed his focus on the impending elections.

“We can’t all think the same. We can’t all judge Ghana’s history the same way. In fact, it will be odd for me. So, from the ideological political point of view, if that’s his view, fine but the occasion demands you focus on the election that is coming and paint a picture that is positive for your ticket and proceed to sell that ticket and the message”, he accentuated.
