Your Crying Doesn’t Solve Our Galamsey Problem – Atik On Armah-Kofi Buah’s Emotional Reaction

Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources

Atik Mohammed has reacted to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah’s cry over the devastation caused by illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

The Minister, addressing the galamsey menace at a press briefing, particularly the extent of environmental degradation in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve, paused mid-speech to wipe away tears.

But Atik Mohammed, a socio-economic analyst, reacting to the Minister’s seeming emotional breakdown on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, was not moved by the tears as he noted it doesn’t solve the galamsey problem.

“These are not the things that would win the fight against galamsey. Crying on TV, we’ve seen such episodes in our political life; we know how they end. What we need from you is a concrete action.”

To Atik, the Minister should by now be taking practical steps to solving the galamsey challenge, some of which he listed as he ensuring offenders are arrested and prosecuted as well as revoking the licences of mining companies who do not conform to the right standards among other measures.
