Your Outburst Rather ‘Demotivated’ The Boys – Sonnie Badu Blasts GFA President
Gospel musician, Sonnie Badu has chided the President of Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, over his admonition to the Black Stars before their game with Sudan happening today Thursday, October 10, at 4 pm at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Kurt Okraku, in a meeting with the players, lashed out at them saying “the minimum Ghana expects is a team of boys or men who are so passionate and desire to play for our country, not when you have dribbled and you will be seen walking on the pitch and the ball heading towards your net. That is impossible. I told the coach, it’s either you, guys, decide to play for Ghana, to play for the 30 million plus people or decide you will not play; then you will never be selected”.
He further stated “once you depart your various places and you come here and you put on the shirt, naturally, that should give you the pride to fight to show passion, to show aggression, to show desire to win for your country”.
But to Sonnie Badu, this is a wrong approach as he noted these utterances from the GFA President rather demotivated the players.
He wrote on Facebook: “With all due respect, I think Kurt’s outburst rather deflated the boys. Yes, I understand he is frustrated and wanted the nation to see that he is in control. However, football is a psychological game, and this could damage the boys rather than provide the intended motivation.
This is why Dede Ayew is still needed; he does well in motivating the boys, or a successful ex-player could be helpful. If I were Kurt, all I would say is, ‘Hey guys, Kwesi APPIAH is an ex-player and ex-coach, and so a game like this has a lot of mixed emotions.
Don’t let him leave here as the winner.’ By the way, the boys are good, but they are not bonded together. I suggest we get the Langabels and Ojoo back to help these boys settle and unite.
The Jama sessions were a great form of bonding. Who leads it now, now that Dede and Ofori are not there?”
