Atik Mohammed has condemned the military brutality at Walewale after some residents violently attacked a bus and individuals.

The violent attacks are reportedly in connection with the Bawku Chieftaincy crisis.

Following the perpetrator’s’ behavior as they burned a vehicle, soldiers deployed to the area subjected residents to beatings.

Atik Mohammed, a panel member on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, touching on the issue registered his displeasure with the conduct of the military officers.

To him, the soldiers using brute force will only compound the problem instead of restoring calm and order.

He stressed; “It’s creating a great deal of panic and worry in that township.”

“People are being shot at indiscriminately in Walewale by security agencies. It is not the best. Indeed, investigations need to be conducted to find the perpetrators but if that is being done and you also elect to brutalize innocent civilians, I think you are worse than the perpetrators who are under investigation”, he whined.

He called on the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to intervene in the Walewale situation first ensuring the soldiers cease terrorizing the civilians and then, he (Mahama) finding proper mechanism to solve the chaos.

“We cannot say that the answer to the unspeakable acts they allegedly committed is that soldiers will be unleashed into the Walewale township to be beating people indiscriminately.”
